Toby Foster and Tony Adams launch the campaign

Boots For Africa

BBC South Yorkshire, BBC Radio Sheffield, CSV and Sheffield United FC joined forces to collect 2007 pairs of football boots to send to children in South Africa.

The BBC in South Yorkshire and CSV joined forces with the oldest football club in the world to collect 2007 pairs of football boots to send to disadvantaged children in South Africa.

The campaign, called ‘Boots for Africa’ ran in partnership with Sheffield United FC which celebrates its 150th Anniversary in 2007.

We are looking for pairs of football boots which are no longer needed, any size is accepted.

They must be cleaned up, paired up and tied up.

The idea for the campaign came when the chairman of Sheffield FC Richard Timms visited South Africa and noticed that many children were playing football in their bare feet without boots “All our junior sections at the end of the season grow out of their boots so I thought a scheme where they could donate them to Children in South Africa would be a good way of celebrating Sheffield FC's 150th anniversary” he said.

BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Toby Foster launched the campaign when he presented his programme live from Sheffield FC’s ground on Thursday 4th May.

He was joined by ex England and Arsenal defender Tony Adams who gave his full support to the campaign. “I've gone from my garage this morning and got some dusty old boots out for campaign.” he said as he dropped a pair of his old boots into the bin.

Any boots for the campaign can be dropped off at the BBC Open Centre at 54 Shoreham Street, on the BBC Bus details of locations can be found on this web site, for more information about the campaign call the CSV action desk at BBC Radio Sheffield on 0114 267 54 44.
