Take a tour of the Gardens!

Botanical Gardens tour!

Sheffield's Botanical Gardens, in the south west of the city, is one of South Yorkshire's most beautiful urban attractions. Discover more about the gardens right here, courtesy of our virtual tour!

Built in 1834, the Gardens have at times endured a less than certain future and faced extinction in 1898, when the then owners wanted to sell the land because of financial difficulties.

But the Gardens survived and despite several years of decline in the 1980s, they are now looking at a bright future, thanks to a multi-million pound restoration project funded largely by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

You can discover more about this breathtaking attraction by clicking on the links at the top right-hand corner of this page.

The audio links let you hear Joe Rowntree, curator of the Gardens, who guides you through their history, from the opening in 1834 to the present day.

And click on the photo gallery links to take a virtual tour of the Gardens and see how the glass pavilions were lovingly restored!
