FeaturesYou are in: South Today > Features > Sports Unsung Hero 2009 ![]() Sports Unsung Hero 2009Nominations are now in to find someone who goes that extra mile to make a difference to sport. A regional judging panel, made up of a cross-section of BBC South sports staff and other local sports experts, will decide the winner of the BBC South Sports Unsung Hero 2009. All 15 BBC regional winners will then be invited to this years BBC Sports Personality of the Year show, broadcast live from the Sheffield Arena on Sunday, 13th December on BBC One, where an overall winner will be announced. Previous overall winnersMargaret Simons was the 2007 winner. She has run Bardwell Football Club in Oxfordshire since founding it in 1964. Ben Geyser, the driving force behind Dorchester Boxing Club won the overall award in 2008, as well as the BBC South award. As last year's BBC South winner, Ben has set up three clubs and is currently campaigning for a permanent home for the Dorchester ABC. He holds three sessions per week plus countless hours organising tournaments, matchmaking, fundraising, transporting boxers to tournaments, supporting charity events. To enter, you must ensure all the sections are filled in. Any nomination that doesn't include details of the nominee cannot be accepted. Your nominee must be informed and have agreed to being entered, nominees may be asked to appear on BBC TV and/or radio. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding their decision.
