Freddie'sYou are in: South Today > Freddie's > Cressroads ![]() Mike Irving CressroadsCressroads is a splendidly written and often incomprehensible blog about the goings on of life, loves and malarkeys in the watercress fiefdom of Alresford and it's surrounds. Mike Irving the blogger calls himself Blogsbody. He's a 73 year old retired tabloid hack, of the News of the World and Sunday People variety and his irreverent eye-catching language reflects their tabloid style. Stories he has aplenty. People are given nicknames. There's Henry the Wid, the Church Warden who has two dogs prone to uncontrolled urination, widding everywhere they go. ![]() Gary the Gardener Gary the Gardner who is a regular sight around Alresford, pushing his lawnmower around the town. Henry Tapper a 70 year old man who’s imported love from the Phillipines in the shape of a young bride and her son and extended family. He's called Tapper because he's always tapping his leg in the pub. ![]() Ruby Rangoon But what's different here is that locals are being inspired to join in. Ruby Rangoon who runs the Pindar Centre in Avington now writes for Cressroads as the Agony Aunt. And of course there's H, or General Dogsbloggy as he's been called. H is a retired stockman who Mike says "Has played darts and cricket in every pub in the county and there isn't anyone he doesn't know". Together they trawl the pubs of Hampshire seeking out stories. In H's words: "We take stories and we exaggerate them." "As a retired stockman, H has an imagination like you wouldn't believe" says Mike. Blog HQ is the Titcborne arms in Tichborne. This is where it ll began. Regular tieclad besuited Simon May runs an IT company Prizebyte and hosts the site. His wife Kay May is a photographer and she takes photos for the stories on the Cressroads blog. Landlords of the Tichborne Arms Nikky and Patrick Roper provide a rich source of stories for Cressroads, pub chat turning into monstrously inflated adventures. As Mike says, these are "stories that would not appear in the county weekly because they may prove offensive to advertisers. We don't care." See if you can make head or tail of the adventures...The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites last updated: 07/05/2009 at 12:44 You are in: South Today > Freddie's > Cressroads
