FeaturesYou are in: South Today > Features > If you go down to the woods... ![]() If you go down to the woods...Georgie Palmer went on a haunted hayride, where she met a zombie, a witch and a man with a chainsaw. It must have been Halloween! ![]() Georgie Palmer writes:I go to all sorts of places, filming for Going Out, but this was a real adventure. My producer, Pete, and cameraman Trevor persuaded me to go to the Spooktacular Festival at Tulley's Farm in Crawley. ![]() We started in filming in the "Field of Screams" where we shot my opening piece to camera. Cunningly they got somebody dressed up as a witch to jump out on me towards the end of my piece without telling me beforehand, and being a neurotic anxious soul at the best of times, I jumped out of my skin and shrieked my head off. I tried to run away but in my haste, caught my coat button in the fence and got stuck, like in a bad dream! Then we hopped on board the "Haunted Hayride" which was pretty hell-raising too, well, it was for me. I had to bury my head in Pete's armpit for most of it (which he didn't seem to object to and luckily it wasn't smelly either) but the funniest thing was Trevor, who was cool as a cucumber. He didn't flinch throughout the whole ride, even when there was a zombie in his face and a man brandishing a chainsaw! It was dark and cold filming out in the forest, but even colder driving back with Pete who likes to keep his car interior at arctic temperatures to keep him awake and also likes to be fed a steady stream of chocolate biscuits. As soon as I got back I wrapped myself up in a blanket with a hot water bottle in order to thaw!![]() Pete writes:It was a dull Thursday afternoon and little did we realise it would get very exciting before the end of the night. We were going to broadcast live from the farm but at 4pm, on the M25, I got a call no producer ever wants to receive - our satellite truck had been delayed and was only just leaving Southampton. The engineer was confident that he would reach us by 6pm, but Georgie and I could see the traffic building! Not to be beaten, we met our cameraman Trevor at the farm and decided to start filming. The only problem was that the clocks hadn't gone back and it was still very light - not great if you are doing a scary Halloween film! At the begining of the film you will see Georgie VERY scared - she knew something was going to frighten her but we didn't tell her what. When a witch jumped out it terrified her and the panic you see is real. We only filmed it once! The witch, by the way, was very nice and apologised to Georgie for frightening her. ![]() We then rode the haunted Hayride. In fact we did it twice, once to interview Stuart Beare - who was brilliant - and then again to capture all the scary things that happen along the way. Trevor was attacked by a giant spider and deafened by screaming passengers, while Georgie was so scared that she clung to me for dear life. My arm still has the fingernail marks! The satellite truck didn't make it, so we weren't able to appear live on Thursday's South Today. Never mind, you can still watch it all here on the website. last updated: 07/11/07 You are in: South Today > Features > If you go down to the woods...
