Scouts all over the world are celebrating. The movement was formed 100 years ago on Brownsea Island. Here are some of your messages.

Sandra Bell
My Son Alexander (14) left yesterday as part of the Dorset Contingent for the World Scout Jamboree. He attends Bournemouth Boys Grammar school, here in Dorset which was started in 1901. When BP ran his experimental camp on Brownsea (local in Poole Harbour) in 1907 he mixed boys from Harrow and Eton with local Boys Brigade lads from Bournemouth School. That Boys Brigade unit went on to become the school scout unit - the unit my son now belongs to and which 100 years on he is the sole representative of at Jamboree. As a Girl Guide leader for 10 years I wish i too was there, and send everyone of the 42,000 scouts and 10,000+ leaders from around the world my best wishes for a wonderful Jamboree. In these troubled times the Jamboree motto of "One World One Promise" could not be more appropriate.

Lawrence Mizen

I have been a girl scout in Norweay since I was 10, I am now 47 years old,cub scout leader and mother of 3 scouts. Two of them will participate in the jamboree this year, I envy them a little... I participated in the jamboree in Australia in 1988 as a troop leader and I still remember it as a great experience! I especially remember the exitement of meeting scouts from so many different countries and working together with them.

Robert -- Virginia, USA
I'm 17 and I turn 18 on 3 October so thankfully I am old enough to perticipate in a few days for the trip of a lifetime. I care a lot about Scouting considering I have been in it since I was Six, my friends joined scouting when I did, and my mother was a Girl Scout. I'm the only one from my city able to attend the World Jamboree and because of that, I have been asked atleast once a day for a year that pertains to the World Jamboree. It is all very exciting especially with my country having it's centennial as well as our own Scout centennial in three years. It makes you wonder what Lord and Lady Baden Powell would say if they were here.

rema e. burdeos- agusan counsil- girl scout philip
i was once a delegate to the east-west encounter of the waggs in hongkong in 1981. this year my son, GEO PAULO BURDEOS, is attending the world scout jamboree in uk for the cetennary celebration!the mother was able to go to the colonized state of Hong Kong, while the son is going to the UK itself!!!!

I've just read Pedro's comments, he is a little older than I am, but it is lovely to know that kids in the Berkshire County enjoyed and remember their Scouting. I joined Brownies at the age of 7 and was involved until I got married in 1989. Life skills is definitely what Scouting is about and having fun, this year we have just got back involved since my eldest is now 11 and a Scout and my youngest is 8 now a Cub (They are both Girls, so are blazing a trail for others.) I always have been in Berkshire so Pedro's comments were interesting, I was with 3rd Sandhurst Scout Group, but now I am with 1st Emmbrook, and 3rd Wokingham (Long Story!)Anyway all 3 of us will be in Wokingham Town Centre on 1st August for our district Sunrise. Pedro, Greetings from Berkshire.
