ReportersYou are in: South Today > Reporters > Tom Hepworth ![]() Tom Hepworth Tom HepworthTom is our north Hampshire reporter. Working from our office in Basingstoke, he finds the stories that matter and captures the pictures that count for South Today viewers. I enjoy playing football and bass guitar (very badly). I also love eating curry, especially Nepalese, which is lucky really, as there are plenty of Nepalese restaurants run by former Gurkhas in north Hampshire! I also like walking. My favourite place in the South has to be the top of Leith Hill in Surrey, you can even see the new Wembley Stadium from there. I've not always been a reporter, I've worked on a few building sites in my time, baked bread in a medieval faggot oven and used to sell double glazing. I gave all that up to get up at 4am every morning to work in local radio, reading the breakfast news. I still love early mornings, especially in the summer when it's light, it feels like it's your own private bit of the day before anyone else is awake. I've had some great times out on the road being a reporter. Going to Germany for England's game against Ecuador in the World Cup with the boys from Mayville School in Southsea was a highlight. Although the epic coach journey through France wasn't so brilliant, but seeing the boys so happy, after Portsmouth FC stepped in to pay for their tickets when they were caught up in a ticket scam, helped a lot. Not so good is getting attacked by penguins. It's happened twice now, I didn't goad them or anything. They just don't seem to like me very much, but that doesn't stop my producer sending me to do stories about them!
