If local history’s your thing, then check out the Wigtown Museum. Here you can learn about Margaret Wilson and Margaret MacLachlan, the Wigtown Martyrs. ![]() Wigtown is called the 'Book Town' for a reason If the Museum stirs your interest, take a stroll around the Parish Church graveyard. Here you’ll find three stones commemorating the Martyrs. Step even further back in time with a visit to the Torhousekie Standing Stones. This series of stone circles is thought to be a Bronze Age observatory. When was the last time you visited the theatre? The Swallow, in Whithorn, hosts a variety of plays, concerts and other events. ![]() Wigtown street market Bobbie Ingram got in touch to suggest a visit to the weekly street market which is held every Saturday from Easter until October. There's also a car boot sale on the first Sunday of every month. Wigtown is known as the ‘Gateway to the Machars’ so why not head out into the undulating hills and enjoy a few hours exploring the stunning landscape.
