Radical
plans which would change the face of the Hove seafront have just been
unveiled - as developers vie for the chance to develop the King Alfred
leisure centre. |

Major
change could be on the horizon for the Hove seafront - some of the
world's leading architects are in the running for the job.
The
key seafront site has attracted names like Lord Rogers, Wilkinson
Eyre and Frank Gehry.
Their ideas - you can see pictures by clicking
here - offer a dramatic vision of the potential future.

contenders are:

The 'winner' gets a major prize - the chance to build a £25
million sports centre plus at least 400 homes.
The homes would 'enable' the development and the council says that
40 per cent of them would go key workers or people from the housing
waiting list.
"This
is perhaps currently the most prestigious coastal development site
in Britain. That is reflected in the quality of bids we have received
and the high-calibre bidders shortlisted." said council leader,
Ken Bodfish.
"They all have the potential to create a world-class development
combined with local sports facilities in a different league to anything
we have now." he said.
You can see the the proposals at a public exhibition at the King Alfred
leisure centre, Kingsway, Hove, from March 8, until Wednesday March
12.
It will then move to Hove Town Hall from Thursday March 13 to Monday
March 17.
