1970's FACTS

1970 - John Lennon’s drawings were removed from a London gallery by the Obscene Publications Squad. But the best bit - Heather from the webteam was born!

1971 - The VCR video recorder was launched by Philips.

1972 - A man wearing only a scary beard ushered in the sexual revolution as Dr Alex Comfort’s illustrated Joy of Sex manual was published for the first time. Polaroid cameras were another of the year’s biggest sellers

1973 - Daredevil motorcycle stunt rider Evel Knievel was the man of the moment. Chopper even launched a Knievel push-bike, complete with fake exhaust pipe.

1974 - "Delicious and light ... Angel Delight" first frothed up in a bowl near you - and McDonald’s opened its first UK restaurant in London.

1975 - The pop video was born. A seven minute rock opera complete with dodgy visuals gave Freddie Mercury’s Queen their first number one single, "Bohemian Rhapsody".

1976 - Concorde came into service, offering England’s busy super-rich a quick transatlantic route to the New York shops. Not as great as Heather arriving in the world, but worth a small mention - Ed from the webteam is born!

1977 - Pop music lost more than its fair share of stars, as Marc Bolan, Bing Crosby, and the King himself - Elvis Presley - died this year.

1978 - In Manchester the first test tube baby was born, and The Invasion of the Body Snatchers started at UK cinemas.

1979 - The first nudist beach opened in Brighton. Space Invader machines were first exhibited at a UK trade show.

The Pointer Sisters, Chic, The Three Degrees, Candi Staton, Evelyn "Champagne" King, The Emotions and last but not least Boney M are shaking their sparkly lurex thang at venues across the UK.

"The Best Disco In Town Live 2004" is boogying all the way to Sussex and the Brighton Centre on the 16th October.

Seven of the biggest artists from the disco era will come together to perform their hits, in
what promises to be one hell of a show.

The 2003 show was a great succes. Chic and Nile Rodgers were the overwhelming stars but never fear, if you didn't get to swing your pants to their top toons last year, they are returning to headline this year's tour.

The tour line-up is completed with The Pointer Sisters, The Three Degrees, Candi Staton, Evelyn "Champagne" King, The Emotions and Boney M.

Chic and Nile Rogers
Chic are headlining

Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, will be returning with their 10-piece band. This tight American outfit will once again be belting out the classic hits Le Freak, Good Times, I Want You’re Love, Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah), Everybody Dance, along with a medley of hits that have been written by Nile Rodgers for other artists.

The Pointer Sisters are without a doubt the world leaders when it comes to female vocal groups. This will be the first time they have appeared in The UK since 1985. Who could forget such gems as I’m So Excited, Automatic, Jump (For My Love), Slow Hand and Should I Do It?

The Three Degrees' string of hits in the 70’s included My Simple Heart, Woman In Love, Take Good Care Of Yourself, Dirty Ol’ Man, Giving Up Giving In, and the number 1 hit When Will I See You Again. They were also one of Prince Charles favourite groups and have performed shows for The Royal Family at Buckingham Palace many times.

With her unique soul voice, Candi Staton had one of the biggest hits ever from the disco era, Young Heart’s Run Free, other hits followed included Night’s On Broadway(from the film Saturday Night Fever), Suspicious Minds and the haunting You Got The Love, which was a hit for her twice, reaching number 4 in 1991 and number 3 in 1997.

Evelyn King
Evelyn "Champagne" King

This will be the first time Evelyn King has toured The UK in over
18 years, her huge hit Shame was the first record to ever be released in the UK on
12” vinyl and has
become a collectors item to this day. This dynamic performer will also
feature her hits Love Come Down and I’m In Love.

The Emotions had a world wide number 1 hit with Boogie Wonderland with Earth, Wind & Fire in 1977 and toured the UK with them several times; this is the first time they have been here on their own. Other than Boogie Wonderland, expect to hear I Don’t Wanna Lose You’re Love and the disco anthem The Best Of My Love.

Boney M
It's gonna be a Holi-Holiday!

Boney M featuring Liz Mitchell. In the 1970’s Boney M sold a
staggering fifty million records worldwide including the three number 1 hits
Rivers Of Babylon, Brown Girl In
The Ring and Mary’s Boy Child. Rivers Of Babylon sold two million copies in The UK alone. Other hits included Daddy Cool, Sunny, Rasputin, Ma Baker, Painter Man and It’s A Holi-Holiday.

And it will be on the 16th October, for all you 70's fans. The biggest disco holiday of this year at the Brighton Centre!
