ELECTRIC SOFT PARADE

In October 2001, they guys broke the world record for the fastest-produced video using Microsoft's Windows XP.

The video was filmed, edited and shown to the public in three hours, 46 minutes and 19 seconds, beating Live Aid's previous record set in 1985.

The attempt was held at HMV's Oxford Circus store in London, and was shot on the roof of the flagship store before being edited by producer Steve Graham.

Overseen by official adjudicators, the record attempt was completed when the video was broadcast on Microsoft's own website, MSN.

Hailing from Brighton, Alex and Tom White are still only aged in their late teens/early twenties.

But their music and attitudes display a maturity that would not
be out of place on rock veterans.

They will be up against some of the biggest
names in rock when they play at this year's Isle of Wight Festival in Newport: Groove Armada, The
Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, The Who and David Bowie to name but a few.

Alex and Tom know little else apart from making music together.

They started banging on pots and pans as children, and became serious about music after putting on weekly gigs at their local cricket pavilion in their early teens.

Start Quote I was scared people would think it's a bit too sophisticated for a couple of little kids. We've always been into trying to create a vibe, trying to get a scene on the go End quote
Alex White, ESP

With their band - then called Feltro Media - they made three albums before even winning a record deal, and were central players in a Brighton underground arts scene called Totally Bored that
is now bearing fruit.

From there, they became The Soft Parade, but soon had to change their name again after complaints from a Doors tribute band who were already using that moniker.

Now that they are on the springboard to the big time, they are on a mission to do something original and lasting - not just sticking to one style or copying the latest fad.

The pair have already supported The Who at the Royal Albert Hall - but, rather than enthusing about being on such a prestigious bill, Alex says the experience was just "all right".

Start Quote Legends etc, great, they were OK. It was a little bit cabaret End quote
Alex White, ESP on supporting The Who
