Steyning based rockers, Paradox, won the
second heat of The Horsham District Battle of the Bands 2003 at
The Extra Time Bar, Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre on Sunday to
claim one of the seven places in the November 1st final.
The heat was another classic.
Billingshurst based melodic grungers Madeira Drive opened
the evening and will feel unlucky to have been drawn as opening
act in such a strong heat.
Their set got better and better and many people will want to see
more of this band.
The youngest band in the competition were up next. With an average
age of just 14 Soundart were exceptional.
Although they cannot yet match their song writing ambition with
complete mastery of their instruments they look potential winners
in a year or two.
Just Called Charlie were a revelation and brought a freshness
to the competition because their style of music was unknown to many
of the audience.
Take Two-Tone Ska, throw in some thrash guitar and a hint of The
Coral and you are still not quite near to describing it.
Whatever it is it's going to be the next big thing that kids that
wouldn't normally dance will dance to.
The band must have a great chance of one of the lucky loser spots
in the final.
Winners on the night, Paradox, were good last year. This
year they are great. Driving guitars and three good voices in front
of as good a rhythm section as you'll see and you have full-on rock
and grunge played just the way you like it.
Battle
of the Bands is jointly organised by The Horsham District Live Music
Alliance and Horsham District Council.
