It was never going to be a tea party and in fact round four of BoTB turned out to be a close run thing as Trevor Beadle reports...

The fourth and final heat of this year's Battle of the Bands competition always promised to be the "Heat of Death" and so it proved with no less than three bands eventually making it through to the final.

Singer songwriter Mikey Mike, followed by the energetic skater punk of Four Score, opened the closest run of all the heats.

Dwell then wowed the audience with their own brand of spiritual rock before the emo-rock of battle veterans Nematosys showed us exactly why they made it to the final last year.

Next up were Prodigal Son, who in a previous incarnation as Purgatory had won the covers section two years ago.

They blasted out their original heavy metal material for the very first time.

But it was the seriously cool funky music of the last band Maxi Funk that gave them the edge and it was they who went through to the final as outright winners of the heat.

The judges then had the unenviable task of voting on who would be the three "wild cards" from all four heats to contest the final, and after another extremely close count Four Score, Dwell, and Just Called Charlie went through to join Maxi Funk, Te-Puki Thunder, Paradox and Slaughterhouse onstage at the Carfax Bandstand at 6.45pm Saturday November 1st 2002.

In the event of bad weather the final will be transferred to the Drill Hall, Denne Road, Horsham where doors will open at 6.45pm and entry is £3/£2HDLMA members.

Arrive early to get a good view.

Battle of the Bands is jointly organised by The Horsham District Live Music Alliance and Horsham District Council. Trevor Beadle is BoTB organiser.
