A view of Hastings Old Town by night

It was a death that inspired Gavin Luker to pick up his camera.

Last year Qatari  student  Mohammed Al-Majed died after a suspected racially-motivated attack in Hastings.

Combined with the closure of the town’s pier and the effects of recession, that incident has, to Gavin, led to an image problem for the East Sussex town.

His response has been to use his art to show the other side of Hastings – a place which he believes has much more to it than the bad news headlines.

Gavin has been out with his camera at night to photograph the town and show off its sights.

“I like the reactions, people say ‘Wow’ because they have not seen Hastings in such a way before’.  Hastings is such a beautiful town and people that are here are very proud,” said Gavin.
