BBC Southern Counties presenters have done it - now it's your chance to have a go at writing a short story for BBC RaW's Short Story Competition before the 31st January 2008. The story needs to be based around characters from Max and Lara's Amazing Travelling Space Circus. BBC Southern Counties Radio Presenters have had a go at writing a story. Have a listen: Help playing audio/video Here are some more details about some of the characters: ![]() Max and Lara Max and LaraMax and Lara are brother and sister. They are orphans. Max is older than Lara and he looks after her. Max also likes drawing and is funny. He is also a bit clumsy, so often has a plaster covering his cuts and bruises. Lara is very proud of Max and likes being with him. She is very brave and can get herself out of tricky situations. She is bright and smart and likes wearing beads. ![]() Kooloo KoolooKooloo the space hamster, he is Max and Lara's pet. He loves eating biscuits (and anything else for that matter). He watches everything that goes on and learns a lot this way. One day Kooloo would like to have his own spaceship and travel the universe, but he's not quite sure he's ready yet. ![]() Baked Bean Baked BeanBaked Bean is a very shy dragon. He feels unhappy because he wants to breathe fire and fly like other dragons but he can't. Baked Bean is very friendly and all he wants is for everyone to be friends and be happy. He cries if he's frightened and dances when he's happy. ![]() Tiny TinyTiny is a strongoid. She looks just like a little girl, but she is incredibly strong – the earth shakes when she skips. She loves to play, but it can be tricky as she sometimes forgets just how strong she is! ![]() Mr Scatterbrain Mr ScatterbrainMr Scatterbrain loves to make people laugh and spends all his time trying to do this. His jet-powered unicorn is much more serious. He is secretly studying so he can enter “The Weakest Link”. You can make the characters do anything – visit other planets, come round for tea or give your child a part in the circus. You might like to invent some new characters and could include your family in the story. Spelling and grammar aren't important, what happens in the story is the most important thing! To help get you started why not choose three words from the selection below to include in your story. ![]() Your children can help and draw pictures to go with your story. The prizes:Get your story into a BBC book. There will be a RaW book of the best short stories from the competition. Win family cinema tickets - you could go to the cinema with your child once a fortnight for a year. Competition Rules:The story must be written by an adult over 18.
