A fireman knitting

Not naked but knitting!

Getting their knit off!

When the Age Concern Woking office moved to Woking Fire Station last year I quickly became aware of the impact a fireman's uniform has on most ladies of a certain age!

We needed to promote our new partnership with Surrey Fire and Rescue, and I thought a good idea might be a cheap and cheerful "cute" calendar featuring fire fighters and older people. I envisaged taking the pictures myself and highlighting the strength of the Fire Brigade and the vulnerability of older people in an interesting way.

I visited Jon Davies at Knaphill Print to get an idea what this would cost, and somehow he persuaded me to set my sights a little higher.  He put me in touch with two local photographers (Anthony Britton and Anthony Charters) who offered to take the pictures free of charge. Jon then offered to print the calendar 'at a price we could afford'.

Bob the fireman

Fireman Bob bravely fends off an admirer!

This led to some hilarious 'shooting' sessions with local older people and Woking Fire fighters and resulted in the calendar we have now produced.  We have such unlikely situations as a firefighter sitting in the garden being taught to knit by three older ladies and a polar bear being rescued from a tree (scared by fireworks!)

There are squares for each day big enough to write in, price £5.00. available from Woking fire station and other outlets on request (still negotiating). All profits to Age Concern Woking. For more details ring 01483 770753.
