H is for HG Wells

The writer HG Wells is well known for setting his famous book “War of the Worlds” in Woking and its surrounding area. In doing so he put this Surrey commuter town firmly on the map.

Graphic - A to Z

He is widely credited for popularising the idea of time travel with the publication of his 1895 classic The Time Machine, in which the main character creates a machine capable of moving backward and forward in time.
