First stop, is St Nicholas Church. This was the place where an African Princess got married. Sarah Forbes Bonetta was given as a present to Queen Victoria when she was only 8. She lived on Clifton Terrace in Brighton and married an African man called James.
Her wedding was a media event, the streets were crowded and people had to climb trees to get a view of the happy couple! Next onto Victoria Road. Home to four sisters whose grandfather was a slave!
His son was freed and made his fortune in London. He married an English white woman. Their four daughters lived in luxury and comfort in Brighton until their deaths… Onto Royal Crescent on Brighton seafront.
