Farnham Crafts Study Centre

Art: even from the outside

Gems and Treasures

Take a tour around a treasure house of crafts in the heart of Surrey. Plus - if you are planning a craft show in Surrey, Sussex or North East Hampshire, how you can get it onto 48 Hours.

Planning a show?

If you are planning a local art or craft show, then tell us about it 48 Hours. Email 48Hrs@bbc.co.uk or ring us on 01273 320421.

Even from the outside, it's clear that the Crafts Study Centre has much to offer within its walls.

Craft of all kinds is celebrated at the centre in Farnham – with many examples from international artists.

The centre focuses on Twentieth century craft in ceramics, textiles, calligraphy and wood.

At the moment it has a special exhibition: ‘ Modern Craft from the British Council’ and you can take a tour of that show and the centre with Professor Simon Olding.

It holds a major collection of work from the potter Bernard Leach and like many other exhibits, it’s also possible to see the diaries and other papers with which artists have documented their work.

The centre’s  collections are used as the basis for study by academics but it also stages major exhibitions every year.
