The only public house within the foyer of a theatre
In 1926 my grandfather Lawrie Sargeant was landlord of The Colonnade; I understand that this is the only public house within the foyer of a theatre.
My father, now 94, remembers going across to the Corn Exchange and watching John Logie Baird give a demonstration of his 'televisor' machine whilst they were living there. The General Strike was on at the time.

Some years later Lawrie Sargeant had the Bristol Hotel and returned to The Colonnade Brighton in 1926 for a short while before purchasing The Selsey Hotel, Selsey West Sussex in 1927.
Lawrie Sargeant died at The Ringmer Hotel just outside Lewes in 1958. His ghost was reputed to haunt the premises, now demolished and replaced by houses.
