Monster
Write a tale for your little monsters!

Monsters & Magic Competition

Do you have a monster of a story just bursting to get out of you? Could you write a story for children about monsters & magic? Your story could be read by a celebrity for a special BBC Children’s Bedtime Story CD.

We asked you to make up a story for children on the theme of "Monsters & Magic" using some or all of the words below:

SWORD    HAIRY    BUCKET    DRAGON    SLIMY    JAM    SQUISHY    CHEESE    GRUMPY    SOCK

Monster

Thank you to everyone who sent in a story for the 'Monsters & Magic' competition - we were inundated with great stories about dragons with a soft spot for cheese and jam sandwich, and monsters with squishy socks!

There were over 160 entries and it took our judges - Tommy Boyd, BBC Southern Counties afternoon presenter, Nicci Holliday, BBC Southern Counties Radio Managing Editor and Miriam Moss a local children's author,  a while to read through them all!

After much deliberating they managed to choose 20 finalists to go onto two special BBC Story Writing workshops which are being held in April in Brighton and Guildford with children's story editor and expert Laura Atkins.

The workshop will give them the chance to develop their stories for a place on the BBC Children's Bedtime Story CD which is going to be sold to raise money for the Rainbow Trust's SMILE Appeal with the radio station is supporting.

So congratulations to the finalists who are:Judith Sampson from West Molesey, Tricia Hatherley from Epsom, Karen Flynn from Ashford, Alison Bailey from Redhill, Jackie Brooker from Sheerwater, Fiona Scullion from Epsom, Hayley Mcilroy from Croyden, Michael Louw from Frimley, Suzi Hopkins from East Chiltington, Sharon Littler from Epsom, Jo Benson from Brighton, Adam Cook from Crawley, Siobhan Sullivan from Hastings, Stephen Keogh from Hove, Karen Downer from Sharpthorne, Liza Smith from Newhaven, Les Page from Worthing, Gill Tipping from Lewes, Helen McCondach from Littlehampton, Richard Attfield-Davis from Lewes

Some of their stories will be appearing on the website shortly so watch this space

Don't stop writing!
