Arundel Castle
Just past the castle, the spirits lurk..

Arundel Ghosts Go Bump in the Night

By Cathryn Setz
In an 1836 prison, visitors are greeted at the blackened door by a hooded figure reminiscent of Death. Next begins a chilling tour through the cobbled layer, genuinely scary but exciting to behold.

The Arundel Ghost Experience

  • What? A guided tour in an old prison basement, with scares and spills along the way. Excellent fun for children.
  • When? Open 7 days a week throughout the year, 10 am - 6 pm.
  • Where? DramaZone, Duke's Path, Arundel.
  • How Much? Adults £4, Children £3, group discounts available. For bookings call 01903 889821.

Darkness prevails, in word and deed. Death talks softly amid the loud bangs and moans all around. No sooner as we few guests regain composure, another scream, another poltergeist shatters our nerves with thrilling ghoulishness.

"Was this really a trick of the light? With the slam of yet another cell door, or a bucket whizzing across the floor – how can you be sure?"

The Arundel Ghost Experience at DramaZone, down a narrow street up by the castle, takes visitors on a journey through the hills and spills of Sussex’s ghostly past.

From ‘the limping girl, of Firle’ and her rafter presence at The Ram pub to ‘the Blue Man’ at Arundel Castle and his smoking-jacketed scares – this was a genuinely frightening experience. It was also brilliant fun.

The poor boy beside me was half leaping out of his skin every time Death spoke.

The Arundel Ghost Experience
The door creaks open... Death awaits.

"Grey Lady, Grey Lady, are you with us today?" Death chanted. The Grey Lady is said to haunt the very spot in which we stood.

Suddenly, an empty rocking chair creaked out of the darkness. Even I was starting to brick it by this point.

Was this really just a trick of the light, I thought? With the slam of yet another cell door, or a bucket whizzing across the floor – how on this earth, or the next, can you be sure?
