The Albert Sessions

The Albert Sessions, South:Live's live local gig series, is kicking off again. Here's what's going on...

Now read this.....

The only audio format that we accept is CD. We get loads - so you won't get it back. Receipt of your CD will indicate your consent for your music to be both played and discussed on-air. It takes about two months for a demo to work its way through the system. We don't have time to respond to emails or any attempts to chivvy us up - sorry.

Since March 2006, South:Live and Brighton’s award-winning music venue Concorde2 have teamed up to bring you a monthly night for unsigned bands – The South:Live Albert Sessions.

These free gigs take place monthly at The Albert on Trafalgar Street which fittingly sports a building-sized portrait of the patron Saint of unsigned bands, John Peel.

Which tune did it for you?

As part of our continuing quest to showcase the very best new talent from across the South, our regular live gig is set to blast off again upstairs at the Albert on Sunday.

Although still relatively new on the Brighton band scene, Fitsroy have been wowing audiences with their energetic fusion of Rock, Ska, Punk and Trip Hop.

Throughout 2006 Fitsroy have shared the bill with some of the cities best bands, and they packed The Hope when they headlined a 'Love mission' gig which raised money for children with Aids.

Fitsroy have received air-play on both regional and national radio stations, and their music was very well received during their successful outing in the weekly South:Live demo panel.  www.myspace.com/fitsroy

Telegraphs have been together since 2005 and with influences including Idlewild, Radiohead, Constantines, Hope Of The States and Jeff Buckley boy can they rock!

Their debut single So Cold/Ariel received national airplay and among other plaudits was described as “inanely catchy, brilliantly effective…that has the appeal to transcend the boundaries of underground and mainstream indie” by internet fanzine God Is In The TV.

"If you get to the Panel, you'll get a call five days beforehand. So ensure that all of your contact details are included on your CD..."

You can help to decide which band will feature in future Albert sessions by text during the show's weekly demo panel.

Remember, all unsigned bands are eligible to send their stuff in - as long as they are based in either East and West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight or Dorset.

That's the transmission area of South:Live - your regional unsigned music show from the BBC.

To get in the queue for this, send your CD demo to Phil Jackson at BBC Southern Counties Radio.  40-42 Queen's Rd, Brighton, BN1 3XB.  If your band is selected to appear in South:Live's weekly demo panel, and if you win, you will get a gig at the Albert.

South:Live is broadcast from 7pm-9pm on BBC Southern Counties Radio, BBC Radio Solent, and it covers East and West Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and Dorset , as well as world wide via our online and digital service.
