Blazing bonfire torches in Lewes

Ready to burn?

As autumn creeps in, can you smell that wood smoke? Bonfire Night is getting closer - bringing with it some landmark anniversaries for those who have kept the 'spirit of bonfire' alive.

In many Sussex towns and villages in particular, autumn brings more than mists and mellow fruitfulness.

It's a time of passion, parading and pyrotechnics as the bonfire societies remember a terrorist who became a household name; Guy Fawkes.

This year is the 400th anniversary of both the Gunpowder Plot and the village and town groups which first marched to celebrate Fawkes' capture in 1605.

So we can expect a big deal and a major show from societies across the county, with many planning showcase events.

As the bonfire season gets underway, here's a place to find your local blaze - or to get your bonfire event listed. Just fill in the form below and we'll put your on our 2005 Bonfire Map.
