South Live

A man playing a guitar

It's all about the music

There are hundreds of great bands around the South, but hardly any of them ever get heard on the radio. Until now, that is. South:Live aims to make the unheard heard - and every week we showcase bands that you need to hear.

South Live Facts

South Live broadcasts two local bands live every Sunday

You can hear the show across Surrey, Sussex, Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

To be considered you need to send us a demo

We listen to all of the demos that are sent in

South:Live is all about local music - and it gives you a chance to get your music played on radio across the South.

All of the music that you hear on this show will come from local artists, because we only play bands which are from the counties of Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire or Dorset.

We're interested in bands and artists which are unsigned. It's a fact that there are hundreds of great bands across this area - and you will hear many of them on this show.

So far we've seen live unplugged performances from The Sands, Roger Davies, Dani Wilde, Cathyrn Stone, Andy Baron and others.

We've also had sets from established local artists like Carleen Anderson, Chris Difford, Tim Booth, Hazel O'Connor, British Sea Power, The LoveGods, and The Levellers.

And we've even broadcast live from Glastonbury 2005 and Guilfest. Yes, it's a tough job. But someone's got to do it

Our Demo Panel have chewed their way through the hefty postbag that arrives every day - resulting in an on air interview and airplay for local bands Sequoia, Dead! Dead! Dead!, Fuji Heavy, Nothing and Catherine KS.

Plus, we speak to local artists who have made it in the business like Arthur Brown and Robin Scott, as well as music industry figures whose tips you can see in our South Live Master Class.

South:Live is presented by Phillip Jackson.

If you want us to listen to your demo - and you've got some original tunes - then you need to send us a CD by post.

We don't accept demos in any other format and we don't much like demos that arrive without any information. about who has produced them.

So think about your presentation as well as your music..

And then send in your music to South:Live, BBC Southern Counties Radio,40-42 Queens Road, Brighton, BN1 8XB. We guarantee to listen to everything that you send.

The Elevators. Can't believe that they are not on your list. They sell out at the Komedia in Brighton every time they play there - tickets being sold well in advance!
