They're
Britain's invisible army of health workers - people who care for friends
or family members. Now a new service offers the chance of a regular,
friendly chat with other carers.

Ring
Around Carers is a 'meeting place on the phone' for carers - a new
project set up by the BBC and Community Network - the registered charity
which runs telephone conferences for other charities and not-for-profit
organisations.
It's confidential and it's free.

Ring Around
Carers means that you can meet a group of like-minded people without
leaving your home.
Many carers find it difficult to get out to see people or sometimes
just miss that chat over a cup of coffee.
All you need to join Ring Around Carers is a phone. The weekly chat
lasts less than an hour, but it's time for you - the carer - to talk
about the things that interest you.
You
might have a conversation about current events, what's happening in
your garden or even Eastenders!

BBC Southern
Counties Radio teamed up with the Community Network to launch Ring
Around Carers to listeners in East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey and
North-east Hampshire during Carers Week, 9th-13th June 2003.
Carers who have joined the scheme really enjoy taking part and look
forward to their weekly meetings.
After a couple of phone conferences, the regulars get to know each
other. They've found that chatting to a group of friends can turn
a bad day into a manageable one, and that the good days can be shared
with everyone!
If youd like to find out more about joining Ring Around Carers,
please call the BBC Southern Counties Radio Helpline on 0800 88
88 06.
