The
BUPA Great South Run is now in its 12th year and has grown into
one of the most popular mass participation runs in Britain. Over
12,000 amateur and professional runners covered the 10 mile course
around Portsmouth and Southsea.

O'Sullivan |
This
year's competitors had to contend with strong winds which prevented
any records tumbling among the professional athletes.
Ireland's Sonia O'Sullivan was in Portsmouth to defend her title.
She won the women's race in 53 minutes 26 seconds, but failed to
break the world record as she did last year.
The men's race was won by John Yuda, Tanzania's Commonwealth 10,000
metres bronze-medalist, in a time of 16 minutes 35 seconds.
As
well as the professional athletes, a whole host of personalities
and fun-runners took part in the race to raise money for charity.
