tiny What area do you cover?
BBC Southampton is one of the first of the new BBC Where I Live Sites launched outside of London. All of the new sites have been dedicated to smaller areas than their television counterparts to help give a more local and unique service. BBC Southampton covers the city of Southampton, and the surrounding area - Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. BBC Oxford is live in the north of the BBC South region. Berkshire, Surrey and Sussex and Kent have their own sites. For the full list of Where You Live Sites, go to the England Homepage.

I can't find what I'm looking for on the website!
Have a look at the Site Map which shows you all the sections of the the BBC Southampton site. Or you can try the BBCi Search at the top of each page - it'll find what you're looking for on the BBC Southampton pages, on the rest of the BBCi or on the rest of the internet.

Why don't you stream football commentary?
The BBC does not own the rights to webcast football commentary. However you can follow matches online with live text commentary - you'll find links on our Saints, Pompey and Cherries pages.

Can I listen to BBC Radio Solent online?

We do stream BBC Radio Solent's news and sport bulletins.
Unfortunately streaming radio is very expensive. We have no current plans to add streaming of all programmes. Watch this space - occasionally we will stream some of Radio Solent's large outside broadcasts.

Can I get more details about a feature I heard on BBC Radio Solent, or saw on South Today?
Easy - just go to the BBC Radio Solent website. It's got details of all the main features the station is running, as well as contact numbers and e-mail addresses.
For TV, you can email the South Today team via the South Today website.

How can I let you know about something that could go on your news pages?
Email us the details with a contact phone number or send in a press release to BBC Southampton, BBC Broadcasting House, 10 Havelock Road, Southampton, SO14 7PU. You could also email it to BBC South Newsgathering for South Today and Local Radio's attention.

Can I publicise an event on the listings page?

Yes - go to the Listings page and fill in all the details. The Listings is a free service for all types of music and arts events.

Can I write an article for the site?
Of course! We always welcome your contribution and love to hear your ideas for what should be on the site. Make sure you e-mail us first on southampton@bbc.co.uk with your idea. We can't guarantee that we will publish everything submitted - so get in touch first. You could also review a gig, concert or show you've seen on our U-Review page.

I can't access the audio and video clips
You'll need to download Real Player - it's free, and if you need any help in getting it onto your system, have a look at the
BBC download guide
We currently do not support Windows Media Player on this site.

Why is my telly picture bad?

For any technical queries, you'll need to call reception advice on 0870 010 0123. For TV, radio and digital reception information, you could also look up the BBC's Reception Advice page. For information on the new digital services, use the Digital Advice page.

Can I use a picture of yours on my website?

Everything on BBCi is subject to copyright laws, so you can't use anything without asking first! There is a full list of the BBC's terms and conditions here.

Your travel cameras aren't updating!
The pictures from our network of traffic webcams are provided by the ROMANSE project in Southampton and are updated every every five minutes. The pictures on the website may be turned off if the cameras are being used for operational reasons. They are online at the following times: Weekdays 0700-1845; Saturday 0900-1645; Sunday 1000-1545. Have you tried pressing F5 (on Internet Explorer) or hitting refresh in Netscape?

Why is the BBC Radio Solent news audio out-of-date? We have a fantastic automated machine that records Radio Solent's news bulletins amd puts them onto the internet. As with all machines, they tend to be a little fickle and from time to time decides it would like a holiday, and won't update anymore. If this happens, pop us an e-mail at southampton@bbc.co.uk, and we will go and politely ask it if it wouldn't mind updating again!

Why don't you put a webcam...?
We have a few more planned and in the pipeline - so watch this space!

How do I get a job at the BBC?
The BBC Jobs page has details of all current vacancies and information on how to go about getting work experience in the area you are interested in.

My question hasn't been answered!
Email us at southampton.@bbc.co.uk and we'll try and answer your question. We try to reply as soon as we can. You never know, if we like the question enough we may even add it to the FAQ list! You might like to check through the main BBC FAQ list, if your question is more general.
