A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.....

Dark Skies took over a year to make. |
Two Star Wars fanatics from the South got so fed up with the wait
for the next film to come out that they've made their own.
 |
| The film
stars the whole family. |
David and Nikki Nutley from Otterbourne, near Winchester started the
project which they filmed in their spare room and local woods last
September.
Using a digital video camera and a home computer the 18 minute sci-fi
adventure cost just £500 to make.
The short
stars their whole family with children Jack and Sophie as Luke and
Leia, Nikki as Queen Amidala, father-in-law Chris as Obi-Wan-Kenobi
and mother-in-law Ann as the evil Emperor Palpatine.
"When Star Wars came out in 1977 it just blew me away. It's
great now 25 years later to be able to do it on your home computer."

It wasn't all
plain sailing during the filming of 'Dark Skies'. After a couple of
months the children, who aren't huge Star Wars fans, lost their enthusiasm
and had to be bribed with toys.
The last six months were particularly gruelling for David as he put
all the special effects together. The light sabres were made out of
wooden dowels from a toy shop.

| The glow
effects on the light sabres took hours. |
Once the fight scenes were filmed, the footage was downloaded onto
the computer where David drew round each frame to make the glow and
contact flashes around the light sabres.
When the film was finished, they loaded it onto their internet site
but so many of their friends had trouble downloading it that they've
hired out the Point in Eastleigh for a premiere screening on Wednesday.
