Endal to the rescue

The saying that a dog is 'man's best friend' has certainly proved true for Gulf War veteran Allen Parton who was saved by his labrador Endal.

Allen was knocked from his wheelchair by a car on a visit to Crufts at the weekend. The first to react was his best friend Endal.

Three year old Endal is trained as a 'Canine Partners for Independence' dog. The highly intelligent dogs are taught to help people with disabilities in their everyday lives.

He first put Allen in the recovery position, wrapped a blanket around him and then ran into their hotel to call for help.
Allen has recovered from the incident with no serious injuries.

It's no surprise that the Southampton born lab was the hero of the day - he has already been voted Britain's most intelligent animal and 'Dog of the Millennium'.

Allen and Endal re-construct the weekend's events:
Rescue 1

Allen is knocked from his wheel chair and lies dazed on the ground.

Rescue 2

Endal instinctively realises something is wrong and barks to attract attention.

Rescue 3

He then gets hold of Allen's mobile phone, taps it against his face to bring him round so Alan can phone for assistance.

Rescue 4
Endal pulls Allen into the recovery position and fetches his dog blanket from under Alan's wheelchair to keep him warm.
