A Junior Minister for the Department of Education is to open a new after-school study centre in Portsmouth.

Jacqui Smith, MP, will be visiting Portsmouth Study Centre to meet children and staff who are taking part in the Playing for Success project there.

The study centre was developed by Portsmouth Education Authority, Portsmouth Football Club and the Department for Education and Employment.

Players from the football club's youth team work with the youngsters at the centre as they study information technology, numeracy and literacy.
