Craig "walks away" with no Brits
Craig David
Craig David - applauded by music biz

Craig David has sensationally come away from the Brits ceremony with no awards, but a lot of new friends in the music business.

Craig David - record nominations

The Southampton teenager had been nominated for for six titles including Best Album and Best British Male.

The Best Male title was lost to Robbie Williams and best album went to Coldplay's Parachutes.

The R&B star had picked up the highest tally of nominations ever as he fought for six awards.

However, some of the biggest names in pop came to his defence - Elton John said "If there is a better singer in England than Craig David then I am Margaret Thatcher."

While U2, who were given an award for their Outstanding Contribution To Music, dedicated their end-of-show performance to the Southampton star.

Craig himself had earlier taken to the stage to give a high energy performance of his hit 'Fill Me In' and confirmed rumours that he would walk away empty-handed from the ceremony.

Ad-libbing during his performance, he sang "six nominations, no Brits for CD."

The Artful Dodger did not win any awards either. The Southampton Duo were nominated for Best Dance act, won by Fatboy Slim.

Neverthless there was some Southampton success as drummer Will Champion scooped several awards, including Best Album with his band Coldplay.

What do you think about Craig getting no Brits? Was it unfair or did he deserve it?
