Dorset Fire and Rescue is supporting this week`s National Chip Week by warning of the dangers of chip pan fires.

Combined with other types of cooking fire, these are the biggest cause of fire injuries in the home and in the past have resulted in fatalities and serious injuries.

Weymouth, Springborne and Poole have the worst records of chip pan fires around the county.

Fire officers advise never to leave pans unattended and to cover a pan with a damp towel or fire blanket should a blaze arise.
