Eavesdropping on council meetings across the Atlantic has become the latest craze for a group of Southampton University students.

New parking metres are the talk of Lincoln City

Dave Barnes and Herman Mok accidentally logged on to the homepage of Lincoln City, Nebraska - and now spend their time watching online videos on topics ranging from headlice to parking meters.

The American city is keen to put as much local information as possible on the net. Council meetings and public information films have fascinated the lads in Southampton.

And the interest is mutual - the citizens of Lincoln City are flattered by the attention and have sent the Southampton students more fascinating information about life in Nebraska.
