Fuel protestors back at Fawley

Concern about fuel prices continues

About eight protestors are back at the Fawley oil refinery, in protest about the high price of fuel. It's understood they are NOT blockading the refinery, but talking to tanker drivers as they leave.

They are unhappy that the price of fuel at the petrol pump has not fallen at the same rate as the drop in price of crude oil.

Today's protest follows the reduction in the price of petrol at the pumps by just 1p. The protestors say there could, and should, be a far bigger cut.

The RAC says oil companies have been slow to cut the price at the pumps, and the fuel protest group Dump the Pump says the 1p drop was a "token gesture"

They are profiteering, and I believe the chancellor should target them with a windfall tax.
Garry Russell,
Dump the Pump campaigner

Through December the price of a barrel of crude fell to under $24, a third less than in September, when the first fuel protest was at its height.

Just a few months ago the refinery, along with all other refineries in the country, were blocked. It brought the country to a virtual standstill.

The Petrol Retailer's Association says, however, the latest price cuts will be the start off a bigger fall in prices.
