Dr Michael McCabe gets onto the Wightlink ferry with his power-assisted bike.

Fed up with a frustrating train journey, a University Professor has come up with a bizarre way of commuting to work.

DR Michael McCabe cycles off the Wightlink ferry

Dr Michael McCabe cycles from his home is Sway, New Forest, to the Isle of Wight ferry at Lymington.

Once he's on board, he has a leisurely breakfast during the 30 minute crossing to Yarmouth.

Then for the third leg of the journey Dr McCabe pedals for 20 miles across the Island to Fishbourne aided by his electric power-assisted bike. Then it's onto the Wightlink ferry for the 45 min crossing to Portsmouth.

This incredible journey works out cheaper and much more reliable than taking the train. The recent delays and cancellations on the trains also mean that the sea journey can even be quicker.
