A
Wildhearts audience is always an interesting one with long-haired
rockers, spikey haired punks, and back-combed old skool rock chicks
in latex all mingled into one happy, sweaty mass.
Irish blasts from the past Therapy? kicked things off and set the
evenings' pace at full thrust. They went down a treat and had the
whole room belting back the chorus of Screamager.

After
a couple of minutes to wipe the sweat (and mascara) out of our eyes,
the lights were back up and The Wildhearts appeared blasting straight
into three songs back to back.
Frontman Ginger with dreadlocks flailing bounced around like a lunatic.
CJ looked lean and tanned and bassist Jon seemed to be having the
time of his life as he strutted about pulling random faces at the
crowd. With the heat soaring, Stidi was soon topless and for some
reason had two black lines under his eyes like an American footballer.
Ginger announced that after about their 13th split they've decided
to keep it together. The crowd whistled, clapped and cheered and
they ripped into their recent hit Vanilla Radio with the crowd yelling
back all the "Woah!" bits.

With
their heavy rock riffs and infectious hooks and choruses to belt
back, the whole crowd bounced and strutted their stuff despite the
sweltering temperature.
Ginger asked for the lights to go up so he could see us - where
he recognised a few familiar faces and told us that we were looking
better and better the hotter we got!
We weren't the only ones that were feeling the heat. Drummer Stidi
was practically melting under the lights, he tried unsuccessfully
to move one and resorted to punching it instead.
The set flew past and before we knew it the lads were saying their
goodbyes and heading off into the wings - but there was no way we
were leaving without an encore.

The
whole room began to chant "Don't worry about me, don't worry
about you, I'll be alright..." The Wildhearts headed back onstage
and played along with the singing crowd.
Then, they took us back about 12 years and played a couple of old
tracks including the metal riffed Turning American before finishing
with the reggae tinged Love U Til I Don't.
Slightly sweaty and bedraggled, but fully satisfied we headed home
with legs aching, and ears ringing with the 'Oh la la la la chorus'.

you there too? What did you think of The Wildhearts? Have your say
