The
band began life in 2001 when Stu and Nick got together to work on some melodies.
Some successful gigs and a win at the Southampton Emergenza Acoustic Competition
followed and convinced the lads to recruit some more bodies and form a band.
A
few years later, The Warm now have bassist Rich and drummer Boyd in the fold and
are making the kind of chart friendly pop rock that has given bands like The Calling,
Counting Crows and even Rooster success. Their
music has a sunny American vibe with just enough melancholic anguish to appeal
to the angst-ridden teenagers out there. This, together with its super slick production
gives their songs a distinctly commercial edge. You can easily imagine their songs
blaring from your car radio on a summer's day. While The
Warm may not
be breaking any moulds with their music, they're a professionally polished act.
Their melodic arrangements are instantly accessible and excellently performed. They've
also got the 'teen drama' sound off to a tee. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised
if I heard one of their songs playing during a particularly heartfelt montage
in The O.C. or One Tree Hill.
Breezy tracks such as See The Sun and Taste You Again are pure slices of pop/rock.
Nick's vocals, although a little pitchy in places, bear a remarkable likeness
to Calling frontman Alex Band's deep drawl and some soft backing vocals compliment
his voice. All
That You Are, on the other hand, is a Counting Crows style ballad and shows that
the band can also play those soft rock tunes that get lighters swaying aloft at
festivals when the sun goes down. The
lads themselves have the boyish good looks to go with their music and given half
a chance they'll have girls everywhere screaming in the front row at their gigs
(if they aren't already). The A&R men are probably salivating right now. What
do you think of The Warm? Give them a star rating.
