Plastik - CCTV review
Plastik
Plastik: Paul Cox, Gareth Moss and Andy Natt
In their own words: "The style of Bowie, electric live performances and a punk-fuelled pop attitude."
So, are Plastik about to emerge?

BBC Southampton's Simon Marks reviews their EP, CCTV.

Formed in 2001, Plastik spent two years in Southampton, working the south coast and promoting their first CD. They are now gigging in London and have released their second CD, titled CCTV, via their website.

Those two years have been well spent, because this three track EP has the indefinable (and therefore hard to describe) characteristic of a band who have tuned in to each other and are now moving in a distinct and determined direction.

Like sixth-form schoolboys during their last week of term, Plastik have the sound of a band who are now just biding their time in the grey waters of the pub circuit.

The title track, CCTV, rides on big indie guitars, the vocals have the attitude of John Lydon and the shouty chorus absolutely begs joining in. Gareth's voice hints at Feargal Sharkey, strengthening the bands roots in The Undertones branch of Punk.

Bravado could be a Suede track, though it's sufficiently original to avoid being a rip-off. More of a nod to an obvious influence.

Track three, Art Fcuker, is slightly more experimental. Probably not a single, but a respectable album track.

Based on a choppy guitar riff it takes a bit of getting into, but uses a change of beat for an ending which could be extended to make it great when played live.

Plastik are about as ready to sign a contract as any band could be. They're revving their engine, but unfortunately it's up to others to take their foot off the clutch.

Plastik logoI wouldn't be surprised to find them supporting a major act on tour. As long as it's not Suede.
