Southampton based Auto Circus formed in 2002 and spent the first few month jamming along the lines of their indie guitar bands heroes, such as The La's, The Stone Roses and The Smiths.

The band was formed by guitarist Tom Woodbury, who already knew a guitarist and vocallist but needed a rhythm section.

These he found in the form of drummer Adam Workman and bassist Danny Rowlinson.

Adam is said to be the south coast's laziest man, while Danny, who is obsessed with anything German, listens to Kraftwerk and often chooses to go by the name of Wolfgang Stamme.

Their first few gigs were, by their own admission, glorified jamming sessions, though they have since built up an original songlist and entered the local circuit - gigs at The Joiners, The Hobbit and The Soul Cellar are already behind them.

LISTEN

Auto Circus went into the studio in July 2003 and recorded four tracks, including Love To Burn.

Listening to this particular song we thought it sounded just a little clinical, as if the band were a bit nervous in the studio - understandable for a new band, recording for the first time.

That aside, it's a very listenable slow to medium paced indie track with some nice jangly guitars.

It's not quite Johnny Marr, but his influence is there and there's a heartfelt vocal which binds it all together.

The other tracks, available from their website, are from the same mould and feature more of Dave Hardiman's twiddly guitar lines.
