i got into green day wen i was 11 and wen to see them on their warming tour in 2002 and they where great, i saw them again recently, it was one of the best gigs i've been to, but i was annoyed at the number ofteeny-boppas there, im not sayking that they shouldn't be able to go, but they didn't even know the classics like basket case or good riddence, they should at least make an effort to know green day's older stuff!

HIM -His Infernal Majesty, are the vest band to ever walk this world, or the underworld. It's simply impossible to sum up all that HIM mean to me, for it is too much for words. All I can say is how I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for the five best rockers on the planet! Gas, Burton, Mige, Linde, and especially the ever sexy Ville - WE ALL LOVE YOU!I hope evryone will agree when I say HIM really do more than the best rock band should do, and their music is simply my insperation for everybreath I take. I can't make a single sentence in my head, without fitting in how much they mean to me - Ville Valo you have made me who i am, which is your biggest ever fan. In more than 666 ways, IM FOR YOU!

This was one of the best performances I have seen in a while, it was good to see good quality homegrown hip-hop from the uk, I feel the artist touches on various issues of life today with great lyrical skill. When listening to his music you can genuinely see from his point of view and feel his passion involves in the music, peace

Will Young at Eastleigh Festival
Will was superb at the Eastleigh Festival in July. I was lucky enough to get into the marquee and was really quite close to the front. I have seen him on several occasions and this was easily the best.
He is so good live and really interacted with the crowd - he is a great singer and has a lovely stage presence.
Well done, Will. And well done Eastleigh Festival - great organisation.

karen in marlborough
Baker brothers at the Larmer Tree....what more can I say? Absolutely top banana! Never heard of them before, but will be on the look out for future gigs, any one have any idea why the singer Chris Pedley cancelled his sunday night DJ set? Would loved to have seen that. Afro Celt were fantastic, but then they couldnt have failed! All of the band looked as if they were totally enjoying themselves which only added to the atmosphere. Also lovely to see my daughter in your gallery shots... the green bug outfit!
J.V. , Florida
Muse is the best band EVER!! Their music is so enchanting and unique...they're not like any other band! No matter how many times I listen to their music, i never get tired of them. Their faces aren't too bad to look at either :)!! I would definitely recommend them to anybody who loves great music!!!

Hi I have just read your Jamie Cullum review. I would
like to say that apart from the obvious that he was
brilliant. He also respects the fans more than anyone
I have met, he came outside & was lovely, as my photos
prove. I am a converted Jamie Cullum fan, & he is so
tiny & delicate like a little doll, which i would of
gladly took home!!

The rocknroll band. Their a new soton band i heard rehearsing, best i've heard in years signed or not.

Hidden Agenda are a great band and I wish them luck with their new release (13th July 2004) of their fantastic tune called "Our Secret". It's now been released on fastrax so if anyone wants to have a listed call up your local radio station and just ask for Hidden Agenda - Our Secret available on fastrax. The more air plays the better.
Good luck, wish you the best of luck

Steve Harley &amp;amp;amp;amp; Cockney Rebel (IOW 2004): Over 30 years in the music business and Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel sounded better and fresher than ever. From the opening notes of the appropriate 'Here comes the Sun' to the audience sing a long to 'Make me Smile', the old pro had the audience in the palm of his hand. All of you who enjoyed his set do yourselves a favour and buy a ticket for one of his gigs on his coming tour this Nov/Dec. You'll get 2 1/2 hours of class entertainment. Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!
Matt.
The Manic Street Preachers Rocked with perfection and grace, cant wait to get my hands on the new album.

I am at work and I have just read the beautifully captured review of IOW Sunday and it took me right back to last weekend... thank you bbc for lightening up an otherwise dull day, trouble is I REALLY don’t want to be at work now... Roll on next year!!! (oh and 6 o'clock!)
Simon Isle Of Wight
The weekend was absolutley awesome, the weather great the bands were amazing! I did not know what to expect with The Who, now i'm hooked nicked my mums Who CD's! Can't complain, beats last years by a long way, cant wait for next years now!
Ali, UK
As a festival virgin I didn't quite know what to expect from the IOW festival, But I thought it was amazing.
Being so close to the fantastic and sexy Jet, legends like The Who and Bowie as well as the ever delightful Manics made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Ok, the toilets were minging, and hardly cleaned over the three days, the food and booze were extortionate and the prison guard like security guards who, despite what we were told when we bought the tickets, banned any kind of food from the premises (look at the rules on the back of the ticket, Bucko) did have an impact.
Despite this it was one of the best weekends ever, chilling out in the hot sun with a beer while listening to bands in the day and jumping around like a fool in the evening to the headliners.
Magic.
Sarah, Basingstoke
This is the first festival I have been too and the first time I have ever been camping and it certainly won't be the last on both counts. I have seen some of the most fantastic bands over the weekend and it was an experience that I won't forget in a hurry. The highlights for me were the Stereophonics, Charlatans, Manics and Bowie, I kick myself for not hanging around and watching more of the Who as everyone kept telling me how brilliant they were once that got back to our tent. The worst things for me were the toilets on the Camp Site (to say they are the most disgusting things I have ever seen is an understatement I knew they would be bad, but that bad!!!, Security (not a nice bunch of people at all) and the Fair drowning out the sound of the bands if you were down the other end of the field, if there must be a fair then fine but cut out any tacky music so we can hear the bands if we are sitting on the field, chilling, enjoying the weather and having pimms o'clock!!
I have spoken to my friend already about next year and we will be back!!!!
Steve, Isle of Wight
Isle of Wight Festival 2004. Fantastic weekend! Great line-up - looked like my CD collection! Standouts for me were the wonderful Steve Harley (let's forget his comments about being paid and us 'great unwashed' having to pay shall we?), Electric Soft Parade, British Sea Power, Delays, the gorgeous Suzanne Vega, Manics...come to think of it there weren't really any duffs! The Stereophonics were disappointing but the Who were fantastic! I was expecting a creaking set from some doddery old has-beens but we were treated to the best set I seen in many years. Having seen Bowie in November of last year I was full of expectation but I was hugely disappointed by the terrible sound quality that all but drowned him and his band in droning bass. There was also a lot of bad feeling down at the front of the crowd. Was it the result of the match? Maybe. Does a football match belong at a rock concert? I think not. A somewhat misguided idea I think. Other minor gripes would be that the food and drink was overpriced (as expected), the queue to get in on the first day horrendous and the toilets...aaargh! Too horrible! The sound quality was also rather poor, especially during Bowie's set. Other than that I must say that the amount of staff on the bars etc were spot on with virtually no queues and I though that, on the whole, security were very good. The weather really put the icing on the cake for a truly amazing weekend. How it'll be topped next year I just don't know but one thing's for sure - I'll be there!
Mo Niton Isle of Wight
I went on Sunday.
David Bowie was brilliant. He certainly lifted the crowd after that awful ending to the football. Well done Bowie. The best band after Bowie for me was Snow Patrol - the lead singer was refreshingly modest &amp;amp;amp;amp; seemed genuinely overwelmed.
I really enjoyed the whole day &amp;amp;amp;amp; will definately go again next year. Well done to the organisers.
Jake R-Dorking Surrey
Absolutely sweet weekend! I did get ill and went home on Sunday but never mind!
PRO's-The music, the shops and the weekend
CON's-The toilets and the 'ten minute walk' from camp to venue which is...laughable!

IOW Festival. Awesome. Stereophonics, Jet, Charlatans and Groove Armada were particularly good. The highlights for me however were Snow Patrol and the delays who were awesome on Sunday. Most impressed with them. Saturday night was easily the best. Manics were awesome. "You stole the sun from my heart" got everyone psyched for the whole evening! The Who also impressed me loads. Not being from there era (a mere 20) i knew most of their hits but not so much of their general tracks. They really knew how to work the audience. Pete Townshend was awesome on guitar, 60 next year i am told and playing with the dexterity of a man half his age, brilliant, "behind blue eyes" was the highlight for me. David Bowie wasn't really my type of music, I fail to appreciate his style. Whilst i appreciate the fact the man is a great entertainer neither his newer or older material really impressed me, and failed to change my preconceptions of his music being fairly indistinct and bland, however a great deal of people seemed to love his performance, but i suppose it wasn't for everyone!
Both The Delays and Snow Patrol were completely unfazed by the size of their biggest gig yet and out performed acts with bigger histories and reputations, perfectly complimenting the fine weather. This was the first time I had seen the Phonics and I had been warned that they were somewhat uncharismatic live by friends who had. They however but on a brilliant performance playing a good range of their songs, Kelly's suit was perhaps one of the most dramatic revelations of the weekend, I suspect he stole it from the set of Micheal Jackson's Smooth criminal video but it looked pretty cool and he seemed in good spirits as he indulged in a bit of banter with the crowd.
Anyway Isle of Wight festival excelled itself again (i went last year and was impressed with both lineup improvements and general organisation), i can only see it growing and will almost certainly be going next year. Of the smaller bands both Snow Patrol and Delays really impressed and i wouldn't be surprised if the careers really improve after a full summer of touring. Recommend seeing them and going to the Isle of wight to anyone!

blinding weekend!what a show,if anyone was to say any diffrent they need to get a life!massive respect to rog pete &amp;amp;amp;amp; the rest of the who what a show true prose!big up also groove armarda, manics, jet &amp;amp;amp;amp; of corse bowie!roll on next year!
Rebecca - Kiwi living in London
My friends and I were not dissappointed with the festival - it is definitely on the to do list again next year - Bowie was amazing and if I get the oppotunity to see him again live I will jump at the chance!
Of course the weekend was extra special for Kiwi's as our All Blacks beat England 36-3 (at rugby for those not in the know).
Kia kaha
Kelly Rowland, Windsor
I was there for the whole weekend (camping and all), and what a weekend it was.
Hardly an queue's for food or drinks and the queue's for the toilet seemed to go down fast. The weather was gloriously hot with a few clouds dotted here and there.
The new bands that made my weekend were 22-20's, Leah Wood Group, and The Delays. The bigger bands such as Snow Patrol and Jet were surprisingly amazing. And of course there was Stereophonics, The Charlatans, Bowie and the legends that are The Who.
Biggest disappointment of the weekend had to Super Furry Animals and The Manics. They did nothing for me whatsoever. I have to thank The Furry Animals though, cause if they hadn't have been so disappointing I'd have never wandered off and met the singer and guitarist from the 22-20's. They let me have a couple of photo's with them. What nice guys.
Generally a fantastic weekend, and we couldn't have asked for more (forgetting the footie for a minute). We're definitely going back next year, and none of us can wait!
katie, southampton
o my god ash were amazing at portsmouth on the 4th june. It was my first gig with an actual famous band and it was AMAZING! there were my favorite band after coldpay but now there my best! ps also went to see razorlight on 8th june at wedgewoods also brilliant they are gona do big things this year. Jonny Borrell rules (he had the same shoes as me! (yay!) pps Tim Wheeler is looking dam fine at the mo, any one else think so? xxxxxxxx ASH RULE!
Emma, Liverpool
What a weekend on the IOW - fantastic line-ups particularly Saturday and Sunday. The Who rocked, the sun shone, Suzanne Vega cured my hangover and Bowie looked fit (shame we didn't win the football, though)! BUT a slight tarnish on the event was the sound quality that did not come up to scratch (particularly for the Bowie finale) but just being in the presence of such talent was enough for me! Would I go next year - depends obviously on the line-up and wether that sound quality is improved (the bass doesn't need to be stronger than the vocalist - take note!)!! Otherwise, a happy festival goer....
Nigel , Newport IW
It was good to see the Furries in my home town, they seemed a bit rusty on friday but soon picked up. British Sea Power are one of the best bands in the country. I remember buying there album the day is was released and thinking it was one of the most inventive, innivotive and original albums I have ever heard and I still think that now. There live performances are outstanding and there emotion and passion comes accross in there music beautifully.
Steve Bass London
Humm??? Putting aside the extortionate food prices burning a deep hole in my now empty pocket, the smell of burning fat drifting across the field and the competing fair trying to drown out the music, overall I’d say it was OK! The music, which is what I went for was as exciting as it was enticing. Seeing two legends over the weekend a.k.a. The Who and Bowie were fantastic as expected and it made up for missing Bowie last year. The Snow Patrol were a surprise for me and they seemed as nearly as good as the hype, although the I found the Delays a bit mind numbing or was that drinking in the sun? I was unsure of the Charlatans questionable performance, in particular Tim who although entertaining for the wrong reasons, I think must have been sampling large quantities of hospitality alcohol backstage? Just one for the road hey! Not too sure what I think about football at a rock festival or a fair come to that, seemed a bit misplaced, but then again along with the expensive small portioned food and expensive beer, its just part of the money spinning wheel that festivals have become. Shame really although maybe its just my age?
Aaron SE1
OK good points:
How David Bowie managed to raise the crowd aftier such terrible disappointment (I was the loud annoying person, shouting at the rest of you for not supporting England enough, you gotta be honest the crowd were rubbish at cheering on England)
All the bands were good....
The atmosphere is always fantastic
Bad points:
The walk to the overflow campsite was harsh....
there was no wash area in the over flow campsite.....
your site goes down days before the festival, and you fail to answer questions weeks before the festival....
getting me cool box, glasses, and cardigan nicked......
The toilets in the campsite were not cleaned out enough......
and what's with the gazebo rule that was just stupid making people sit in sunshine in the camp site without any shade.....
BUT BIGGEST MOAN OF ALL, AND THIS PIS*ED EVERYONE I SPOKE TO OFF, PLEASE NEVER EVER GET LIVERPUGLIAN SECURITY AGAIN EVER EVER EVER EVER THEY WERE RUDE AND DID NOT KNOW THEIR **** FROM THEIR ELBOW, AND WE FOUND TO OF THEM GOING THROW OUR TENT WHEN WE GOT BACK EARLY ON SATURDAY..........
but all in all thank you for good weekend!!!!!!!
p.s another bad point was saying you would show all the game cause Alfie and Libertines weren't playing, then not showing the whole of the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Liz
The sounds was quite dreadful. The worst I have head for many a long year. I could hardly tell at times what Bowie song was being played, and I'm a long-standing Bowie fan.
Emily, Twickenham
Have returned with brilliant memories (well as much as possible!) of an Awesome weekend. The Manics rocked, The Who &amp;amp;amp;amp; Bowie were brilliant.A real good mixture of music. Top atmosphere! Fantastic weather! Count me in for next year!
Kate, Woking
Went to see Bowie and was not disappointed - awesome as usual!
Ben &amp;amp;amp;amp; Carolyn @ IOW04
The whole weekend rocked! Highlights for us were Groove Armada playing as the sun set on the first day, Nicky looking healthy and happy during the Manic's set, The Who were tremendous, so glad we got to see them perform, great end to Saturday, Bowie was excellent too. The Delays and Jet were highlights of the other new bands but Steve Harley, the crowd rocked and sang for the whole set, truly great performance.
All in all an excellent weekend, who is on next year? Will be booking first opportunity I get!
Mike Coventry
Was it just me or did Tim from the Charlatans seem pissed???? I think its the worst I have ever seen them him perform. Shame!
Clare, Bournemouth
British Sea Power (Isle of Wight festival) - Lovely to see the BBC's misinformed report about the band. It seems if you, mr or mrs reviewer, have not heard of the band (perhaps they don't play it down your local disco) then it isn't cool. British Sea Power for me were the highlight of the festival, alongside David Bowie. The real fans that packed up to the stage to watch them had an amazing time. British Sea Power were not only amusing (who else would entertain us with a giant stuffed bear and plastic birds) but they were inventive and original. Their improvised and extended versions of their tracks (as compared to the album) was totally unsurpassed by anyone across the whole 3 day event. The other bands believed we would rather hear them churning out their albums (we might as well sit in the car with the CD player on). British Sea Power gave us the whole live experience that you can't get on CD. It's about time we had reviews from people more informed about the alternative music scene, or, quite simply, if you don't know or understand the band then don't pass judgement.

I.O.W. Festival, Just got back from a brillinat weekend the The Who absoutley rocked, Proud Mary were brill as was the Jets, Delays Manic Groove Amarda etc etc and good weather as well......Fantastic

Saw Mark Joseph at the joiners May 27th. He's talented and I can't fault his effort but he's lacks that little extra. Only when he played a pumped version of Damien Rices 'Volcano' did he make the place move. However the 1st band on 'EVE'S FIRST SON' have it! Not a weak link in in the line up. GO SEE!
Les, Portsmouth
Saw the killers last sunday at the wedgewood rooms. Bummin amazing, check em' out. Also, check out The Cave, an underground indie venue in Chichester. I've seen some real good bands there. Tattyseasidetown do a good night there for indie and hardcore bands. BTW does anyone care about production? Surely it's the songs that move you. comments on how tinny something is, is just plain shallow. Listen to Psycho Candy buy the jesus and mary chain. no production at all but a brilliant album. Bobby Gillespie on drums and what he doesn't know about music aint worth knowing.

Saw Eric morrilo @ homelands, he rocks baby!

hi, I'm one of bonemachine's guitarists and just wanted to correct a couple of things and be a total pedant (!) the bonemachine guitars were (mainly) recorded through a Boss GT3 (zoom 20/20 indeed - pah!) into a PC soundcard (in some places) - in other places the guitars are live through a Marshall cab. I'm working on improving the sound though :-) but thanks for the feedback (positive or not so positive) this is a steep learning curve and I'm right at the bottom and crawling slowly up!
Stuart - Bonemachine
Stuart from bonemachine here again, its all down to personal taste etc, after the comments re production on the single I had a good listen to it, learn from mistakes etc, I suppose the lo-fi guitar thing must be on What Happens Now as that is the only song with lots of guitar, I think its a personal thing, I remember the guitarist asking to re-record it because it sounded a bit tinny, but I quite liked it like that, there is loads of bass in the song, didnt want to muddy it up, but hey ho horses for courses, have to agree with the vocal thing, but as we dont have loads a expensive equipment it was the best we could have done :-) I always wish we could get that live sound Grrrrr
lucy - birmingham
i saw muse on december 3rd at the NEC last year and i have to say it was the best concert i have ever been to. The moment they went into apocalypse please i burst into tears, just hearing matts beautiful voice made me cry so i went hysterical when i got my first glimpse of him. Muse are one hell of a classy band...
alison watford
Delays, and they rock.
Simon, Southampton
I think Bonemachine got off lightly with their review. The song is average and the production is, as Abbie Collins says, poor. Your mates will tell you you're brilliant, even when you're not. The reviewer's just telling the truth.
Dunk, Portsmouth
I'm sorry, a friend played me the Bonemachine cd and I have to dissagree with all who say that the production is good. I thought that the production was very average. The guitar sounded like it was recorded through a zoom 2020 straight into a pc sound card and the vocals sounded cheap. It is a valiant attempt and I do understand why the bands mates have come on knocking the review, but I thought that the review lent them more praise than they were worth. I mean honestly, they cant think that the production is professional enough or even close to complete with anything professional. It really does sound like a bedroom demo, it’s a damn good start though, its just not as great as everyone is suggesting.
Wee weeny, southhampton
Usagi played with sammy hungo in southhampton last night and i swear to god they are the best band ive eva seen..... steve albini kicking off with pj harvy and a surgical animal on drums...
Simon, Portsmouth
re: bonemachine review. Lo-Fi? I suggest Abbie Collins invests in a decent set of headphones
Stuart - Portsmouth
Hi, stu from bonemachine here, interesting review, am surprised at the lo-fi thing? and The Trick are damn good, someone should chuck them some cash so that they can record a new cd.
Graeme Parton, Portsmouth
Saw Norwegian 4 piece SPAN few weeks ago at the wedge, they were absolutely brilliant, My mantra wer v.good but amplifier were utter crap. cant wait for ash pompey guildhall june 4th!

I have been to two gigs at the Wedgewood Rooms primarily to see Murderdolls and Wednesday 13 on both occasions the support band was Facelift Wired.I was surprised to learn that they are a local unsigned band their stage performance was brilliant and if you love that kind of music as I do keep an eye out for them I guarantee you won't be disappointed. They are at the Wedgewood Rooms again on the 19th May and this time I will be going pacifically to see them.
Baldwin - North Hampshire
Bonemachine - I have heard the music off the single and it is certainly not lo-fi. Get them to send you another copy - maybe it was a dud CD? Bonemachine have produced a thing of wonder.

wednesday 13 -This guy tottaly rocked the bst ive seen in ages
Ossed, Portsmouth
Bonemachine: Love the new stuff. stirs the loins. Look Forward to seeing you at the Joiners on Thursday (20th May).
Rose, Portsmouth
Just saw the review for the bonemachine single, am confused??? I have been sent a promo copy as well and thought the production was great, maybe the reviewer had a dodgy set of headphones??
Sally - Portsmouth
The Delays are one of my new favourtie bands. As a complete music whore I have many favourite bands but they are now right up there with The Libs, frolicking along aside my absurd crush with The Zutons and smooching with my on going sordid love affair with Kings of Leon.
Loved the gig at Southampton, wasn't expecting much, but they completely blew me away and Gregs voice was just ear bleedingly, orgasm inducingly good!
Loved it, loved it loved! Vibrated like a bunny gone schizo by the end and jumped with my snakebite very high to Long Time Coming!
Do some festivees!! Please be at Glasto, it would be the perfect way to spend a sunny, pissed up Saturday afternoon at Eavis's pleasure

Enquiries from venues also welcome.
Martin, Southampton
I saw Bushbaby supporting Daughters Courageous at the Joiners on Saturday with three other bands. Without doubt they were the best on the stage. So much so that they were the only band the audience screamed at for an encore and the lead singer of the third band said on stage that he was 'blown away' by them. I can't believe they're not signed yet. They stamp all over pretty much every other band around at the moment!
Graeme Parton

wednesday rules
i love wednesday 13.
romford
Wednesday is the man. he made waiting around in the freezing cold for hours worth it. i a;most cried when i meet him. he was awsome in evey way.
Charly, Southampton
Hey don't be so harsh about Serpica. I know the band and they ARE young, but they can't help that, and DIY recording is the only way to do it when you have very little money. Give them credit, they have some catchy songs and the ones you featured on the showcase aren't the best.
Everyone goes on about age, but you have to listen with an open mind. All bands start somewhere, and ambition should be encouraged (to an extent!).
If a band is going to go out and get things done by themselves without having to pay loads to use a recording studio after just a few months of being together, then fair paly to them. Thanks.
Muderdollie glasgow
Wednesday 13
wednesday 13 and DBY were fantastic the best gig of the year by far if u can catch any of the remaining gigs u sooo have to!

Air: 19th Feb Guildhall.
I drove for three hours to see Air in concert. Having waited literally years to see them live I wasn't disappointed at all. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the drive back, though it took another two hours was well worth it.
The guildhall is a great venue and I'm afraid I can't seem to find any criticism about Air's performance.
What an excellent night. No myths shattered here...
tialpupva (brighton)

Their singer was realy funny, and me and my friends all agreed that they have a Lot going for them! All together i Give them both a 5 out of 5. a night saved by some decent Lockal Rock! x
