The combination of a summer's night and a sell- out gig meant The Wedge was crammed with a sticky mass of hot, sweaty bodies and had an air temperature resembling a sauna before Kasabian had even set foot on the stage.

The first thing that grabbed me was the atmosphere in the crowd - a Kasabian gig is basically somewhere between a big party, a rave and an intimate festival.

With a large part of the stage taken up by a stack of synthesizers, I wasn't quite sure what we were in for - but as the lads kicked things off their electronic/rock mix became crystal clear.

Kasabian play Stone Roses / Happy Mondays indie rock with catchy choruses mixed with Chemical Brothers style beats. The songs run smoothly into each other with well crafted synth heavy musical interludes.

Powered along by the heavy guitar riffs you couldn't prevent yourself from leaping about in the heat - despite the fact that your T-shirt was clinging to you for dear life and your fringe was dripping into your eyes.

Frontman Tom is a real showman with the swagger of Liam Gallagher, the voice of Ian Brown and the ape-dancing of Bez all thrown in to one bloke.

Tom whips up the crowd.

Throughout the gig he had the crowd's undivided attention - if it looked like we were flagging (and we were!) he stretched his arms out and wiggled his fingers at us in a 'C'mon let's have it!' and we were off again.

Recent debut single Club Foot went down a storm with the crowd and judging by their reaction to their new Oasis style anthem Lost Souls Forever, they'll be bothering the charts again next month.

They finished off with a big finale playing Cutt Off before saying their good-byes - with no encore on the horizon their shiny happy fans headed home.
