Southampton's Indy Almroth-Wright headed backstage and caught up
with the lads as they enjoyed a well-earned drink at the bar after
their blinding set...
After years of looking for a record deal I see you've finally signed
up!
Dan: Yep, we've sold our souls!
Justin: But we'll never surrender!

in full flow.... |
When I spoke to you last you were really keen to be a 'DIY' band
with a close team running the band. Have you managed to maintain
that?
Justin: That's the reason the deal took so long - we've been
negotiating the deal since before Christmas. It's taken six months
to sort it out because we want to keep everybody that's worked with
us including the label that we've released our singles on. It was
like "We don't want to play with you unless our friends can
play as well!" So we haven't sold out!
You've got a mad summer ahead with Knebworth (supporting Robbie
Williams) Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds etc, it's great to see
that things are moving so quickly for you.
Frankie: It's fantastic, basically we just wanna be on stage
at the festivals, we love it. Today was great for us.
 |
| Despite
the soaring temperatures Frankie remains cool as ever... |
Dan:
It's a whole different kettle of fish doing festivals. All the processes
and the meticulous sound quality things you've got when you're on
tour just get thrown out the window. It's taken us and our crew
a while to get used to, but we're getting there now!
Justin: It started off as a struggle and we weren't really happy
with Donnington, but we felt a lot more comfortable here.
How are you planning to keep the band's momentum up after the summer?
Frankie: Well, we'll be touring again in October and there's
also a single coming out in the late summer/early autumn.
Justin: We're also going to go to America for a bit as well.
Dan: We're going to go and say "hello" to America
and then next year we're going to move in.
Justin: It seems busy now but depending on the success of the
next few months it could be one of the busiest years of our lives.
And after that it'll taper off and we'll have more time to climb
up our own arses and do concert albums and stuff like that.

rockin' away... |
Now that things are starting to whizz along are people's attitudes
towards you changing?
Dan: Just the amount of attention you get - not just in the
terms of press, radio and TV but people on the street and in pubs
talking about you, wherever we go now people know who we are.
Justin: People used to look at me funny because I'm a bit of
a bell-end but now it's because they've seen me on the telly.
Do you think you'll be able to keep your feet on the ground?
Dan: No we don't want to. What's the point of that!?
Justin: No, there's nothing more satisfying than a good tantrum.
Dan: The serious business is writing songs, recording songs
and performing live. That's all taken care of, we'll never forget
how to do that.
Justin: It's nice to know that we're still being spontaneous
live and still enjoying it on stage. Today I pretended that I'd
broken both legs.

with matching catsuit and Les Paul. |
On your travels have you met anyone that you look up to yet:
Justin: Ginger from the Wildhearts.
I noticed that a certain guitar (a white Les Paul) you'd ordered
when I last saw you has arrived Justin...
Justin: Yeah, that one's called the Alpine Slut. All our guitars
have names... and they're all credited on the album.
Speaking of which when's it coming out?
Dan: It's out in July, so not long to wait!
