As
much black as possible is definitely the way forward at this type
of gig. Enormous black boots, clothes, hair and make-up are a must
- which left me feeling a bit underdressed for the occasion in my
jeans and T-shirt.
First up are the emo-rockin' three-piece Engerica, they are literally
ear-blistering and their chest pummeling drums and swaggering epic
guitars go down a treat with the bouncing crowd.

| Engerica |
Engerica
play chaotic, dark, blasting metal/rock with twisted but humorous
lyrics about bogeys and girls with thin legs and fat faces.
It's difficult to pin down their sound - the more thrashy numbers
have an Eighties Matchbox feel to them and the slower ones have
a smattering of Lostprophets.
The top tune of their set was The Smell, their latest single. With
it's catchy hooks, thrashy drums and blasting vocals it grabs the
crowd hook, line and sinker.
Next up, American horror metaller Wednesday 13 backed by graverockers
Death Becomes You. As the lights went down a couple of dark shapes
moved across the stage and the crowd fidgeted with excitement.

The
lights up revealed a vision of horror - the band looked like a cross
between something from a scary flick and Alice Cooper - white faces
caked in make-up with heavy black eye liner, fake scars and blood.
Wednesday shouted out "What do you wanna do with your lives?"
the crowd all yelled back "I wanna rock!" The speeding
guitar, thundering bass and clattering drums kicked in and we were
off!
They have a tight metal rhythm with morbid lyrics which the crowd
sing along to, Wednesday worked the crowd shouting "Show me
your horns!" Every single arm shot up in a devil salute.
The Devil Made Me Do It, And I'd Do It Again is a winner with the
goth crowd who belt the chorus back. Wednesday 13 delivers exactly
what his "scouts" want, a gruesome image and some great
music.
