Everyone was
having a great time tonight. Is it different DJing for Under 18s? Honestly,
the way I look at these parties is that these young people want to party like
their older brothers and sisters do, even like their mums and dads do. I aspire
to present an adult party to young people. I don't think you should change it. These
are young adults in the making so I try to keep it raw. They only know me from
the radio and TV so it's important for me to get across what I do in the clubs
to them. I try to keep it pretty real out there.
You were playing some
pretty racy tunes! Yeah, come on man, that's what they want. They're buying
the albums, they're not buying the radio versions. They know the words. If I palm
them off with mad radio versions they're going to think it's cheesy. | | Soaking

If
you go into a school most people would know the words to at least 20 rap songs.
They might not know their times table but they'd certainly know the words to a
lot of rap songs.
How important do you think this competition is for
young DJs? I think it's important because how else do you aspire? If you
haven't got the money to buy decks or records let alone put on a young club night,
no-one's going to book you. This is important. Young kids want to support their
own and if a star comes out of this then that's a tremendous thing. What
did you think of the three DJs tonight? My problem is that I'm a Hip-Hop
DJ so none of that stuff made sense. I liked the Drum'n'Bass guy because he had
a remix of Terror Squad's Lean Back but the dude who won deserved to win. The
level was good considering they were young kids. I know DJs that can't do what
they did.
What
advice would you give to a young DJ just starting out? Number one, you've
got to get your set right and records right and you've got to be tight - that's
just your basics. Play for the crowd and all that stuff, that's just 'day one'
stuff. That's just what you've got to start with. You've
got to work hard and promote your own parties - be self made. Nobody's going to
come along and manage you and become your agent and put you on at big parties.
You've got to fight for it. You've got to go out there and do your own thing -
get noticed, create your own style and create a vibe. That's just by going out
there and working hard, real hard.

Who
are the up and coming artists in the Hip-Hop scene at the moment? Right
now it's all about The Game. He came in (to Tim's Radio 1 Rap Show) on Friday
and he was crazy. I love The Game. I think he's going to sell a lot of albums.
I think he's going to be as big as 50 Cent this year. Who
are your all time favourite artists? I've just been with Snoop Dogg. We
did a show together. I'm such a fan. He wasn't available to do the show on Friday
or Saturday so we recorded one this afternoon and it was absolutely aspirational
for me. I think Snoop is something else.
What are the hottest tunes
in your collection? The classics have got to be Hail Mary by 2pac and One
More Chance, the remix by Biggie. They're always in the box. The ones that are
really up there at the moment are Bring It On by TI, Higher by The Game and How
We Do by The Game and 50 Cent. That's a number one record.
What do you
think of the British Hip-Hop scene? I like Lethal B. I think Lethal B is
crazy. He's the hottest thing out there in my opinion. I like the Grime scene,
it's given us great UK Hip-Hop. I find that aspirational.
What projects
have you got coming up? I'm about to start a new TV show. I haven't signed
the contract yet so I'm not saying what it is but it's a very big thing. It's
the biggest thing I've done. It's bigger than the TV I do at the moment. I'm mixing
my new album this week and I start recording for TV next week so I'm just trying
to work hard.
