Girls in teeny skirts and boys in their best shirts swarmed into the club, all buzzing with excitement at the thought of seeing their favourite DJ at the decks. But the main reason for the night was to support the local talent on display in the Under 18s DJ Search.

Check out our Under 18 clubbers' gallery.

James
James gets the crowd going

On the decks for the Bournemouth heat were local lad Blair Thomson, James Ings from Wimborne and Tim Ahern from Devon. The pace was fast and furious as each contestant had just 10 minutes to prove their worth to a panel of judges including Tim Westwood. The lads were judged not only on their prowess at the turntables but also the crowd's reaction to their set.

Take a look at our DJ gallery.

17 year old James had the difficult task of going first. Understandably, his nerves were showing a bit as he launched straight in with mix of Beyonce's Crazy In Love. A string of funky tunes followed to get the club-goers grooving including Kelis' Trick Me and Shapeshifters' Lola's Theme. James tried to stir things up with some enthusiastic hand-waving behind the decks and even jumped around the stage area to get the crowd moving.

The audience bearly had time to catch its breath before Tim Ahern stepped up to the decks to pound the speakers with his fast and furious Trance anthems.

The energetic music surged through the young Elements crowd who pogoed madly around to the crazy beats. Tim worked his audience well and bounced behind the decks to get everyone dancing harder. He also decided a little friendly bribery wouldn't hurt and threw glo-sticks and CDs into the outstretched hands of the teenagers.

With everyone still revved up from Tim's set, the final contestant, Blair took over. The lad from Bournemouth played a set of hard, progressive Drum'n'Bass tunes including a pumped-up remix of Terror Squad's Lean Back. He skillfully blended the thumping tunes together while waving his fist in the air to hype up the crowd.

With Blair's set over, the three contestents had a nervous wait for the judges' decision. Still, what better way to while away the time than to watch the mighty Tim Westwood at work.

Over 2,000 13 -17 year olds erupted into deafening cheers as the Radio 1 DJ was announced at the turntables and they rushed forward to try and catch a glimpse of their Hip-Hop hero.

Check out our interview with Tim Westwood.

The DJ immediately showed how the pro's do it, making his presence known by shouting out, "Where are my ladies? Let me hear you scream!" Needless to say, the response was ear-splitting!

Launching into a short set of down and dirty Hip-Hop and Rap, Tim quickly revved up his fans who were loving every second of it, singing along to every word and swaying their hands on the DJ's cue.

Fatman Scoop, Punjabi MC and Usher all got an airing and but no Westwood session would have been complete without a tune from his pal Snoop Dogg. Sure enough, the slow groove to Drop It Like It's Hot came sailing out of the speakers making the kids go wild.

As Tim's set came to an end it was finally time for the winner to be announced. The judges chose 17 year old Tim Ahern as their top DJ of the evening and he will now try his luck at the semi finals in either Rotherham or Romford next month. Best of luck to Tim!
