my life:
I'm English/German and grew up in Germany attending many a filthy techno rave during my formative years. Eventually I realised that psytrance was the way it was gonna be for me, as it was less of the mindless banging and more about the structure and melodies/random sounds. I started DJ'ing in 2000, playing free parties in and around Southampton. The style I play depends very much on the crowd and time of day/night. Earlier sets will see me playing the more progressive and chilled side, whereas later sets will be packed full of rolling, twisted sounds and uplifting (not cheesy!) melodic journeys. I am now a resident with Eufluoria in Southampton ( www.eufluoria.org ) and the free parties we have been putting on have been a great success. Southampton is not exactly a hotbed of psytrance, but I feel we have really managed to get this party started around here!

I run a weekly Wednesday night called 'Five' at Bar Fruit and am running a monthly Drum'n'Bass night called 'The Rubiks Cube' in Bournemouth. my life:

Bretts's love affair with electronic music began in the latter part of 1995. Captivated by the DJ's ability to manipulate the moods of the audience, Brett embarked on his journey into the world of sound.

He began honing his craft, playing at local clubs and parties. He learned to become conscious of his listeners, working the mix and feeding off the energy they gave him, capturing their vibe and adding to it. As he explains it, "It's more than putting two records together. It's constructing a set and progressing with a crowd."

Brett found this formula quickly lead to work all over the UK, not bad for a young scally from the Isle of Wight. A short time after, he co-founded the now thriving Deep Promotions.

His passion for organic sounds and dirty baselines the foundations of the company who now offer quality club nights to the massive as well as managing a handful of like minded dj's and artists.

More recently Brett can be heard raising the roof with his unique electro- tech-house sound all over London, the South and at every Deep Promotions event.

Not much to say really, you either love psytrance or you don't, once it bites you then you're hooked.... play fullon at The Nexus on irregular dates, with Doz Eufluoria and Ed from psychedelic market. (keep an eye on www.eufluoria.org for more info.) On alternate Sundays, the Hobbit on Bevois valley gets the serious chill treatment. Free entry, breakfasts, (veggie too!), cheap drinks. Music varies from deep seductive chilled psychedelia, through ticklish techno, to k-hole beats, stopping off via some dire and sunday-friendly cover versions and novelty tunes. In rotation, me, Doz Eufluoria, Ed, Cactus Jack & Spiky John Swing by and say hello.

Debauchery - Paradise Club
saturday
RPM Paradise Club
set:
2 Main Different Types: Superclub Dance - Upfront dance floor shakers, large and chunky dance anthems as well as a cheeky selection of bootlegs mixed in with the biggest tunes around as well as some that you’ll never have heard before, but very soon will be hearing a lot more of. Commercial Party: Essential party music that doesn’t let up. Its all good fun with everything from Five, Kylie, Salt n Peppa, Shakira and Aha. And of course the Greece Megamix toward the end!

I'm really into my both my two rather different styles of music. I love my upfront, fun, going for it - club music, and in particular dropping tunes during a set which knock people for six because they are that good. I've got a very naughty remix of DJ Tim & Misah - Access, dropped in with Faithless – Insomnia, which does exactly that (knocks people for six). I played it on the opening night of RPM, and it totally tore the place apart.

Really, all of these different styles that are making it into the mainstream dance music scene are keeping things interesting and fresh. Then of course there's the party stuff. Yes its cheesy, but as most people will admit - it is fun, and chances are, that it is exactly what you want at the weekend.

The Theme - Jurgen Vreis
my life:
I've been doing it for seven years now and still very much enjoy it. I’m also quite partial to bacardi and diet coke, so with a double measure and a bag of records on a Saturday night I’m a happy man :)
