Philadelphia's
full-on three-piece, Burning Brides pounded into Southampton's Joiners
this week. BBC Southampton's Indy Almroth-Wright went to check out
their infectious rock. |

After
listening to their album I was slightly worried that live the three
Brides might trail behind as the bridesmaids of their recorded selves.
I wondered if the rest of the expectant Joiners crowd had the same
thing running through their heads.
As I held on for dear life they launched ferociously into Plank
of Fire. The sound literally punched me right between the eyes and
my fears disappeared, they sounded just as good as the album, (phew!)

Crazy-haired
frontman Dimitri is probably the most bendy-legged, bounciest bloke
I've ever seen. How he managed to play his guitar so effortlessly
in a kind of limbo stance and spring about like Zebedee at the same
time is a wonder in itself.
He also has an amazingly powerful voice which fluctuated from a
soothing drawl to an impressively blinding scream.
They moved rapidly from one song to the next barely giving us the
chance to take a breath, and I wondered if one of them had remembered
they'd left the iron on, but then I realised that The Burning Brides
just do things full-on.

With
her all or nothing attitude, ickle bass goddess Melanie is a striking
rock chick who plays full-on thumping bass riffs with amazing speed
and still manages to drink beer, smoke fags and head-bang. While
white-hot drummer Jason thrashes about his kit with amazing strength,
focus and precision.
Together, the three of them make something very strong, loud and
special. While they have their own unique sound, their main influences
- Led Zep, The Beatles and The Stones shine through obviously which
I reckon is a good thing.
I hope The Brides burn brightly for a long time.
