Throughout
2003, the BBCi Southampton website brought you the best in gig reviews,
features and interviews with the biggest names in music when they
visited the South Coast - and the freshest local talent.
We asked you to pick your favourites for the first BBCi Southampton
Music Awards - the votes have been counted and the results are in.
The
Darkness rocked your world in 2003
It's been
a big year for rock and The Darkness
won the best
live performance
award for their show at Bournemouth International
Centre in December.
Muse's gig
at the same venue was in second place, followed by the Sugababes gig at Southampton Guildhall in April.
Our
Showcase section highlights some of the best new acts from
the region and unsurprisingly the most popular local band are Delays.
It's capped an amazing 12 months for the indie band who met at Bitterne
Park School and signed for Rough Trade Records and scored their first
Top 20 hit with Long Time Coming
in January 2004.
In second place were electro-rockers Sonic
Underground who are continuing to build up a following around
London and the South and are heading into the studio with ex-Duran
Duran producer Ian Little.
Meanwhile, behind the decks, Supersonic's DJ Hammy came top, beating
DJ Ally from Long Live Rock and Roll at Lennon's and DJ Chix from
Audacity. The Rhino won the best Club with Lennons and Soul Cellar
in the runners up spots.
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who voted -
let's hope they'll be as many great performances to vote for in 2004.
