Billed as the biggest free event of its type in the South of England, this is the 16th year the festival has taken place - it's expected to attract as many as 100,000 people to the Common over the two days.

Balloons
The Balloon Festival site

The dramatic nightglow on Saturday evening is one of the highlights of the festival. Balloons will set off their burners in time to music while pyrotechnics blast into the sky.

The event is not just for balloon fans, gardeners will be in their element too with everything for the garden, plus crafts and produce in the horticultural tent.

The cream of the city's musical talent will be providing the tunes on the Musicians Union Stage.

There is a new 4 U Kids areas well as an Extreme Zone and a new Motor Zone with classic & heritage vehicles on display. The motor zone will include everything from speedway motorcycles to racing bikes, classic cars to sports cars, buses and even a full size replica of a spitfire.

And for anyone worried about missing any of the weekend's sport, there will be a big screen to show top action including the Wimbledon finals.
